All of the KIA programs provide general enrichment activities that many would not have the opportunity to participate in due to their current socioeconomic situation.

Weekly KIA Evening Program — Evenings from 5:30-8:00 PM
Our Kids In Action evening mentoring program works in conjunction with our Awesome Kids Club after-school tutoring program. This program is open to children from all of our sites and is conducted nightly at our main facility (2308 Watauga Road). Transportation is provided.
This is our fun time! Homework is done; book bags have been repacked and tucked away. Each evening begins with carpet time, followed by a family-style, hot meal prepared on-site by our Food Service Coordinator. Depending on the day of the week, our Coalition Kids can be found enjoying any number of a wide variety of activities.
- Horseback Riding:
Little Dudes Ranch Project offers horseback riding lessons for about 10 of our Coalition Kids. Children selected to participate in this program also have the opportunity to enjoy other activities while at the ranch, including: art and building projects, vegetable and flower gardening, and cooking.
- Dynamic Sports Clinic Series:
The Coalition has partnered with Miss Holly McAmis and the ETSU Department of Kinesiology, Leisure and Sports Sciences to conduct a series of eight dynamic sports clinics for our Coalition Kids. Each month, our Coalition Kids have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of a new sport (football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, golf, hockey, bowling, and baseball).
- Boy Scouts of America:
We are excited about our new partnership with fellow United Way Agency, Boy Scouts of America. The mission of the Boy Scouts is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Miss Heather Suess is coordinating our new Coalition Cub Scout Pack.
- Youth Groups:
Each Wednesday night different youth groups from local churches across the area come out to the Coalition to spend time with our kids. Each youth group is responsible for preparing their own program for the evening. Different groups will provide interactive Bible studies, skits, crafts, music, games, and snacks. Youth group night is always a favorite! Ask any of our Coalition Kids about the lawnmower song! They'll be happy to show you how it's done!
- Learning Centers:
Learning Centers consist of board games, gym time, computer lab, art projects, playground, octo-ball, kickball, and free time. Depending on the night of the week, different activities are given as choices to the remainder of the children who are not already participating in a specific group. These activities are lead by Coalition staff with the help of community volunteers.
- Small Group Projects:
In the past, we have been able to offer small group activities such as weekly piano and dance lessons, knitting and cooking classes, and opportunities to explore science and math in fun, creative ways. If you have a special talent or hobby that you would like to share with our Coalition Kids, please call our Volunteer Coordinator, Ian Crowe, at 423-434-2031.
